Senior Spotlight: Madisyn’s Beautiful Summer Portrait Session

On July 13th, I had the absolute joy of photographing Madisyn, a rising senior from Bartlett High School. We spent the afternoon exploring some of the most scenic and historic locations in the area — Fullersburg Woods, Graue Mill, and the Elmhurst History Museum — creating a session that was equal parts natural, personal, and completely Madisyn.

MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY PICTURE

Madi is someone who wears her passions with pride. She’s a varsity dance team member with infectious energy, a dedicated student involved in numerous clubs, and a program assistant for individuals with special needs, which speaks volumes about her kindness and leadership. She’s also a huge fan of reading — a detail that subtly influenced the quiet, reflective moments we captured in the woods.

A STYLE THAT FELT LIKE HER

Madi brought four different outfits to the session — originally planning to use just three — but in the end, she wore them all, and it was absolutely perfect. Each look brought out a new layer of her personality:

• At Fullersburg Woods, surrounded by nature, her breezy outfits, delicate jewelry, and colorful hair bows gave a carefree, earthy vibe.
• Graue Mill added a touch of timeless elegance, perfect for her slightly more polished second look.
• By the time we reached the Elmhurst History Museum, Madi’s boldest outfit matched the backdrop’s historic charm with modern flair.
• And her fourth outfit? A spontaneous switch that worked beautifully — reminding us all how great it is to have options.

She kept her accessories simple and classic: small earrings, a dainty necklace, and her everyday rings — subtle details that brought consistency and personality to every frame.

HAIR, MAKEUP, AND PRACTICAL TIPS

When it came to getting photo-ready, Madi had a great system. Her mom curled her hair — starting with tight curls because, as Madi says, “they fall quickly!” For makeup, she went with a professional makeup artist Katie booked to give her very light natural look and feel her best all day.

And when it comes to wardrobe prep? Madi’s advice is gold:

“Have extra outfits and accessories so you can switch it up if you don't like something in the moment.”

COLLEGE GOALS AND BRIGHT FUTURES

Madi is not only wrapping up her senior year in style — she’s planning for a future in biomedical sciences. She’s currently applying to some top universities, including:

University of Iowa

University of Wisconsin–Madison

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

University of Michigan

University of Tennessee

There’s no doubt that any one of these schools would be lucky to have her.

Words of Wisdom

Finally, when asked what advice she’d give to other seniors getting their portraits taken, Madi shared a great reminder:

“Relax! It is really evident when you tense up from nerves.”

And she lived that advice herself. Her relaxed, genuine energy was what made this session so special. She laughed easily, moved naturally, and truly enjoyed the moment — which made it easy for me to capture her as she is.
